President: Sweden ties to help boost global peace, stability

IRNA The visit by the Swedish prime minister and his high-ranking delegation to Iran shows the two nations serious determination to enhance ties and help reduce regional tensions and promote global peace and stability, President Hassan Rouhani says.

Sweden has a long history of ties with Iran, President Rouhani said during a joint press conference with Stefan Lofven following their meeting on Saturday.

As a European developed nation, a member of the European Union and also a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, Sweden remains to be an important country to the Islamic Republic, President Rouhani said.

The president said that following the nuclear deal between Tehran and six world powers, a good environment has been created for Iran to develop its business and economic ties with countries in the European Union, especially with Sweden.

The stance taken by Sweden has always been a balanced one and even during years of sanctions the country remained to maintain the same stance in some areas, he said.

Sweden, regarding Irans nuclear issue, exercised the same moderate approach, the president said.

Rouhani said that Iran and Sweden have high potential to enhance ties in an array of fields, especially transportation, environment, information technology and telecommunications, mines and industry.

The president also called on Swedish officials to help promote banking ties and guarantees for exports between the two countries.
