Russia concerned Iran can withdraw from 2015 nuclear agreement

Sputnik- Russia is concerned over Iran's possible withdrawal from 2015 nuclear Deal, Russian Foreign Ministry stated on Wednesday.

Tehran's possible withdrawal fromthe 2015 nuclear agreement due tothe United States' anti-Iran rhetoric would signal the failure ofthe international community, the Russian Foreign Ministry told Sputnik.

Mikhail Ulyanov, the head ofthe ministry's Department forNonproliferation and Arms Control, said "there are indeed concerns because we see rather harsh rhetoric fromthe US administration and Tehran's reciprocal tough rhetoric."
"You ask if there is a threat ofTehran's withdrawal? I believe that such an outcome would be a major failure forthe entire international community," Ulyanovsaid.

The Russian diplomat pointed outthat sanctions the US imposed onIran last week create a "highly unfavorable climate" towardthe further implementation ofthe Joint Comprehensive Plan ofAction (JCPOA).

Ulyanov also addressed US President Donald Trump's criticism ofthe JCPOA as "the worst deal ever negotiated."
"Objectively, this agreement was and is, maybe not ideal, butthe most optimal ofthe possible ways outof a very difficult situation. It is a reasonable and very delicate compromise."

Iran, five permanent UN Security Council members, Germany and the European Union signed the JCPOA inJuly 2015 toensure the peaceful nature ofIrans nuclear program. Under the agreement, Iran pledged torefrain fromdeveloping or acquiring nuclear weapons inexchange forthe lifting ofsanctions imposed againstIran. A UN resolution was passed shortly afterwards, reaffirming the nuclear agreement.

Last week, Iran conducted a test ballistic missile launches purportedly inline withits defense programs. Claiming that the tests were a violation ofthe UN resolution, Washington imposed sanctions against25 individuals and entities which provide support toTehrans ballistic missile program and toIslamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Quds Force onFriday.
