President: Plasco incident shows altruism still alive in society

IRNA President Hassan Rouhani said here on Wednesday that the fire in Plasco Trade Center in Tehran indicated that the spirit of making sacrifice is still alive in the society.


President Rouhani made the remarks in the meeting of the Cultural Revolution Supreme Council in Tehran.

He also sympathized with the bereaved families of the victims of the tragic incident.

Plasco Trade Center, the 17-storey building collapsed in downtown Tehran on January 19 while a number of firefighters were inside the building to rescue those trapped in the huge fire.

Plasco, built in 1962, was the first high-rise building in the Iranian capital.

On Jan 23, President Rouhani also ordered to provide support for the guilds and workers who lost their properties and jobs after the Jan 19 Plasco building tragic incident in Tehran.

At the cabinet session, President Rouhani appreciated the rescue operation at the Plasco Trade Center and expressed his deep sadness over the death of devoted firefighters who lost their lives in the rescue operation.

The president said rescue operation to find the dead bodies should speed up, the families of the victims should be supported and new centers should be made for re-start of business activities.

He also ordered a group of his cabinet members to make due decisions about the priorities regarding the Plasco event.

President Rouhani also underlined the importance of identification of the vulnerable-to-damage buildings across the capital to make them secure.
