Sputnik News- According to the Russian presidential envoy on Syria, a mutual distrust persists between the parties to the Syrian conflict.

A mutual distrust persists betweenthe parties tothe Syrian conflict, butthe important thing is that the negotiations are ongoing, the head ofthe Russian delegation, Russian presidential envoy onSyria Alexander Lavrentyev told Sputnik onMonday.

"Russia is ingeneral satisfied withthe results ofthe plenary session ofthe talks onSyria inAstana," Lavrentyev said, adding that however, "mutual distrust remains betweenthe sides."

According toLavrentyev, participants ofthe meeting will continue working onMonday and Tuesday toagree the final document.

"We will work onit today and tomorrow," Lavrentyev said.

He also said that the parties could come upwith a joint statement onTuesday at14.00 local time (08:00 GMT).

The fact that the parties tothe Syrian conflict are atthe same negotiating table inAstana allows tohope forrapprochement oftheir positions, Lavrentyev said.

"This is a significant symbolic step, which allows tocount onsome possible progress, rapprochement ofpositions ofdirect parties tothe conflict," Lavrentyev told Sputnik.

However, it is too early tospeak ofthe content ofthe joint statement ofthe Astana talks onSyria, Alexander Lavrentyev added.
