Russia, Iran, Turkey managed to bring closer positions on Syria

Sputnik News- Russia's special presidential envoy on the Syria settlement, Alexander Lavrentiev said that Russian delegation managed to hold consultations with the Iranian and Turkish sides, to have discussions in trilateral format and bring closer positions on Syrian settlement.

The delegations ofRussia, Iran and Turkey have managed tobring closer their positions onSyria settlement, Russia's special presidential envoy onthe Syria settlement, Alexander Lavrentiev said Sunday, adding that preparations forAstana talks were going intensively.

"Preparations are going rather intensively. Today we managed tohold consultations withthe Iranian and Turkish sides, tohave discussions intrilateral format and bring closer our positions onmost ofthe issues onagenda," Lavrentiev said.

The work onthe final document forthe intra-Syrian negotiations inAstana is still ongoing, according toRussian delegation head.

"Work onthe final statement is still ongoing, you will hear everything tomorrow," Lavrentiev said.

Alexander Lavrentiev also stated that Russian delegation has had productive consultation withUN Special Envoy forSyria Staffan de Mistura earlier inthe day, Russia's special presidential envoy onthe Syria settlement.

"We have had good consultations withde Mistura today and we have his total understanding and readiness toprovide cooperation inachieving good actual results. Lets hope forthe best and wait untiltomorrow," Lavrentiev added.

Russia will hold further consultations withSyrian government and armed opposition inAstana.

"Negotiations withthe Syrian delegation headed bythe Syrian representative inthe United Nations Jaafari are set fortoday, afterwhich the meeting withthe Syrian armed opposition will take place," Lavrentiev said.

The Astana talks onSyrian settlement will start inthe hotel Rixos President Astana at07:00 GMT onMonday and are expected toend at07:00 GMT onTuesday. The negotiations brokered byRussia, Turkey and Iran will be held behindclosed doors.
