Daesh militants destroy part of Roman theater in Palmyra

Sputnik- Daesh militants destroyed a part of a Roman theater in Palmyra, Syrian state TV reported on Friday.





Yesterday, Daesh carried outmass executions inthe same theater, according toSyrian state TV.

The facade ofthe historical building is now completely destroyed,Syrian state TV reported.
The militants alsodemolished Palmyra's famous "Tetrapylon", a four-column structure.


On January 18, the Syrian army supported byRussian warplanes launched an operation againstDaesh inPalmyra:"We have received information confirmed byseveral sources aboutthe transfer ofa big amount ofexplosives toPalmyra tohelp Daesh terrorists destroy world historical heritage inthe city," Lt. Gen. Sergei Rudskoy, the chief ofthe Russian General Staff Main Operational Directorate, said ata news briefing inMoscow.

In December 2016, Daesh recaptured the ancient city ofPalmyra inthe Homs province. According tovarious sources, the number ofterrorists that took part inthe storming ofthe city reached 5,000 including hundreds ofsuicide bombers and dozens ofarmored vehicles.
