Zarif slams global indifference towards crimes against Rohingya Muslims

IRNA Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif condemned here on Thursday crimes committed against the Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar.

Zarif made the remarks during a speech at the Extraordinary Session of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Council of Foreign Ministers on the Situation of the Rohingya Muslim Minority in Myanmar.

During his address, Zarif called on the World of Islam to be united in supporting the Rohingya Muslims who have been denied the right of citizenship and are suffering from systematic discrimination and violence while there is a widespread hatred against them in country.

Zarif said that it stays as a collective responsibility with Muslim nations to support the Rohingya Muslim minority.

Iran's top diplomat also denounced the world media for failing to cover the graphic images related to the sunken Muslim children left on the beaches of Myanmar.

Zarif went on to call on the United Nations to focus on the Rohingya crisis.

He urged the OIC member states to use all in their capacity to put the government of Myanmar under pressure to observe the rights of its Rohingya Muslim community.

The Iranian foreign minister also stressed the need for sending immediate humanitarian aid, without any restrictions, to the Muslims in Myanmar, urging the OIC and its secretary general to continue supporting the Rohingya Muslims.
