OIC extraordinary meeting on Rohingya Muslims kicks off in Malaysia
IRNA Extraordinary Session of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Council of Foreign Ministers on the Situation of the Rohingya Muslim Minority in Myanmar inaugurated in the Malaysian capital on Thursday.


Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif who has left Davos in Switzerland for Malaysia is expected to join his colleagues at the one-day OIC meeting.

Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Abbas Araqchi has attended the inauguration ceremony for the OIC extraordinary meeting on behalf of Zarif.

Araqchi accompanied by Marziyeh Afkham Iran's envoy in Kuala Lumpur, earlier in the day, took part in the OIC senior expert meeting participated by representatives from 57 member countries.

The Muslim officials during the meeting reviewed the situation of Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar as well as the peace process the Middle East region.

Speaking to IRNA before attending the meeting, Araqchi expressed criticism over the tragic events in Myanmar resulting in the killing of Rohingya Muslims.

He further called on the government of Myanmar to control the situation in that country and prevent crimes committed against Muslims there.
