Louvre antiquities to go on display in Iran

MNA Following the signing of an agreement between Irans custodians of cultural heritage and the Louvre, a number of antique pieces from the prestigious French museum will be displayed in Iran.

Mohammad Hassan Talebian, Deputy Head of Irans Cultural Heritage Organization, told Mehr News on Wednesday that the Louvre Museum is planning to display a number of antique pieces from various historical eras in Iran; this is in line with an agreement signed between Irans National Musuem and the Louvre last April. The exact date and other details for the exhibition have not been yet decided but I believe it will be organized sometime in March, he added.

Back in January during President Hassan Rouhanis visit to France, the Louvre signed a historical agreement with Iran for renewed cultural and scientific cooperation. The agreement includes plans for exchanges of exhibitions, publications, scientific visits and training sessions, as well as archeological digs.

Talebian went on to add, first an exhibition will be organized in Iran and then we will send some pieces to France to go on display there. There is no issue regarding the insurance as the Louvre has agreed to pay all the expenses.

If we did not have any insurance obstacles for displaying historical pieces of other countries, they would all be keenly interested in organizing an exhibition in Iran, he said.

According to Gabriel Nokandeh, Director of the National Museum of Iran, there will be around 24 pieces from the Louvre selected from various cultures such as Greece, Egypt, and Mesopotamia that will be displayed in Tehran.
