Deputy FM: JCPOA opens new chapter in Russia-Iran ties

FNA- Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov in a meeting with Iranian Ambassador to Russia in Moscow on Friday underlined that the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) has opened a new chapter in the relations between the two countries.

"The nuclear agreement is a new page in the history of Russia-Iran relations," Ryabkov said during the meeting.

He reiterated that Moscow and Tehran are now experiencing a new phase of bilateral ties.

The Iranian ambassador also voiced his country's resolve to broaden mutual cooperation with Russia.

In relevant remarks in mid-November, Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani and Russia's Federation Council Chairwoman Ivanovna Matvienko in a meeting in Tehran underlined the need for cooperation in fighting international terrorism.

During the meeting in the Iranian capital, Larijani and Matvienko discussed bilateral ties and ways to fight the heinous phenomenon of terrorism.

Considering the developments that have taken place on the international scene, Iran is cooperating with Russia on the regional issues, the Iranian parliament speaker said.

Larijani said that over the recent years Iran and Russia have taken steps to broaden relations, adding, "Matvienkos current visit to Tehran would play a key role in developing trade, political, parliamentary and security cooperation between the two sides."

The Iranian parliament speaker said that Tehran and Moscow have had close and positive relations in economic, political and security fields.

The Russian Federation Council chairwoman, for her part, said Tehran and Moscow have good cooperation in the fight against international terrorism, and expressed the hope that the two sides would further work together in this regard.

Matvienko added that Iran and Russia have similar or close stances on many regional and international issues.
