Live coverage of Ayat. Rafsanjani funeral ceremony by Western TV channels

IRNA Western TV channels including BBC, France 24 and Euronews broadcast live the Tuesday funeral ceremony of the chairman of the Expediency Council Ayatollah Hashemi Rafsanjani.


From the outset of the ceremony held in Tehran, the Western channels transmitted live the news about the event.

Euronews, the European news media service, started broadcasting Ayatollah Rafsanjani's funeral ceremony at 09:00 hours local time before the start of the event.

Also, Al Jazeera English wrote, 'Thousands gather for Rafsanjani's funeral in Tehran.'

France's AFP, another Western news agency, reported, 'Thousands throng Iran's Rafsanjani funeral.'

Additionally, American TV channel of CNN during its reports described Ayatollah Rafsanjani as a 'political giant.'

Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei led mass prayers for the body of the deceased Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, the former Iranian president, during his funeral ceremony on Tuesday morning.

The funeral procession started at 10 am at Tehran University on Tuesday.

Heads of the three branches of the government, members of the Expediency Council, cabinet members, president's deputies, Majlis (Parliament) representatives, senior Iranian military commanders, Friday prayers leaders, provincial officials and a huge number of Iranians from all walks of life attended the ceremony.

Ayatollah Rafsanjani died on Sunday at the age of 82 due to a heart attack in a hospital in north of Tehran.

Rafsanjani, a veteran cleric, a pillar of the Islamic Revolution and a leading politician, served in different positions after the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
