Iran denies receiving Saudi invitation for Hajj discussions

IRNA Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qasemi said Iran has received no invitation from Saudi Arabia to discuss Hajj issues.

Addressing reporters during his weekly press briefing, he said the Iranian foreign ministry is following the same plan for Hajj rituals as the last year.

He said the ministry has received no invitation from Saudi Arabia and has no plans for dispatching pilgrims for Hajj pilgrimage.

The spokesman said Saudi Arabia has sent out invitations to 80 world countries but has excluded Iran.

A reporter asked the diplomat to comment on a Wall Street Journal report which quoted an American official as saying Iran has received up to 10 billion dollars since 2013 in cash and gold in return for removal of sanctions after the nuclear agreement.

Qasemi confirmed the report saying that after the Geneva meeting and the agreement which followed it, Iran was set to receive 700 million dollars on a monthly basis.

He said he thought the figure suggested by the US newspaper did not reflect the real amount as the Central Bank of Iran has received and used more than this from the resources it possessed.

He said the news is true per se but the figure is larger.
