Expert: None of parties to nuclear deal will follow Trump policy

IRNA - Parties to nuclear deal with Iran have established strong trade and business ties with Iran and none of them will follow the US President-elect Donald Trump to tear up the deal.

Debalina Ghoshal, a distinguished Research Fellow with a Hyderabad-based think tank the Centre for Human Security Studies made the remarks in an exclusive interview with IRNA.

I personally feel that China and Russia and also other parties to the Iranian nuclear deal would not follow the Trumps plan to create restrictions for Iran as they have already increased their business opportunities in the Iran. Russia, suffering from the sanctions imposed by the United States, would find Iran as a lucrative market.

Condemning the US Congress vote to extend the 20-year Iran Sanctions Act expired so far, the seasoned expert of the international nuclear and missile issues, said: Iran is a party to the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and therefore, it has the right to carry out nuclear program for peaceful purpose.

The United States can re-impose sanctions on Iran only if Iran did not abide by its commitments to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). So, what is a matter of concern is that this is happening despite the IAEA verification that Iran is abiding by its commitments to the JCPOA, the former fellow at the prestigious think tank of the Delhi Policy Group said.

To a question on the possible reaction of Iran to the US Congress vote by increasing its nuclear activities, she said: I do not think that Iran would increase its enrichment capacity since that would invite international pressure including from Russia and China, two countries that have supported Iran. But Iran is likely to only increase testing of ballistic missiles that are nuclear capable.
