Irans Velayati hails Tehran-Moscow cooperation on Syria as Positive
Tasnim The head of the Strategic Research Center of Irans Expediency Council hailed the growing relations between Tehran and Moscow and said the pace of regional developments, particularly in Syria, necessitates closer consultations between the two allies.

The pace of regional developments in general, Syria in particular, requires that Iran and Russia, which have strategic relations, hold close consultations, Ali Akbar Velayati told reporters after a meeting with Russian president's special envoy on Syria, Alexander Lavrentiev, in Tehran on Sunday.

Iran and Russia are the two main countries that support the Syrian nation and their cooperation has been successful, he said, stressing the need for Tehran and Moscow to continue the cooperation.

Velayati also said the messages conveyed between the two countries are highly important and necessary for further coordination in political, regional, security and defense areas.

In a telephone conversation on Saturday evening, Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan and his Russian counterpart Sergey Shoygu discussed the most recent developments in Syria following the Syrian armys success to recapture the strategic city of Aleppo from terrorist groups.

The Arab countrys army took nearly all remaining terrorist-held parts of Aleppo this week after a four-year battle.

Hundreds of foreign-backed terrorists have surrendered in Aleppo in recent days. Following the armys significant gains on the ground, people took to the streets of Aleppo on Wednesday to celebrate the citys recapture.

Syria has been gripped by civil war since March 2011 with various terrorist groups, including Daesh (ISIL), controlling parts of it.
