Spokesman: Iran supports internal talks in Yemen

FNA- Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi underlined that Tehran supports cessation of hostilities and continued talks among Yemeni groups, and expressed regret that Yemen has become a victim of Saudi Arabia's ill wishes and aspirations.

"Iran's position is clearly based on stopping violence and continued consultations and meetings among Yemeni and we welcome such talks and we hope that they can sit to the negotiations table without foreign interference and exchange views over their problems and finally reach a comprehensive understanding to take Yemen out of the status quo," Qassemi told reporters in Tehran on Monday.

He said more than one and a half years after the start of the Saudi-led war, "Yemen has unfortunately been victimized by Saudi Arabia's ill wishes and today, the House of Saud has stretched and complicated the situation so much and statistical figures show that the material and spiritual losses of the war are very huge."

Saudi Arabia has been striking Yemen since March 2015 to restore power to fugitive president Mansour Hadi, a close ally of Riyadh. The Saudi-led aggression has so far killed at least 12,000 Yemenis, including hundreds of women and children.

Despite Riyadh's claims that it is bombing the positions of the Ansarullah fighters, Saudi bombers are flattening residential areas and civilian infrastructures.

According to several reports, the Saudi-led air campaign against Yemen has drove the impoverished country towards humanitarian disaster.

Reports said last Monday that Ansarullah movement and its allies had formed a new government inYemen, a surprise that angered their Saudi-backed rivals.

The announcement of the new government, reported by the Houthi-run state television and Saba news agency, said it was formed from all walks of the political spectrum who are anti-aggression".
