Russian military experts prove mustard gas used in attack on Aleppo civilians

Sputnik- Russian military experts say they have found proof of the use of mustard gas by militants against civilians in the Syrian province of Aleppo.

ALEPPO (Sputnik) The ammunition was used ina September attack onone ofthe villages inAleppo province. "An express-analysis ofthe contents [of ammunition] carried outusing a portable infrared spectrometer revealed the presence ofvesicant chemical warfare agent sulfur mustard [mustard gas]," Russian Troops ofRadiological, Chemical and Biological Defence (RChBD) told journalists onFriday.

The ammunition was used ina September attack onone ofthe villages inthe Aleppo province. On Monday, the Russian Defense Ministry said that Russian military experts had found poisonous chlorine and white phosphorus innine samples fromsouthwestern Aleppo.

The ministrys spokesman Maj. Gen. Igor Konashenkov said that the UN-backed Organization forthe Prohibition ofChemical Weapons (OPCW) was reluctant tojoin forces withRussia or send experts toAleppo, while some OPCW members are ignoring evidence that chemical weapons are being used bymilitants againstcivilians inSyria.

On October 27, the OPCW-UN Joint Investigative Mechanism (JIM) expert panel released its latest report claiming that the Syrian government had used chemical weapons atleast three times inthe country throughout2014-2015.

An earlier report said Daesh terrorist group was also responsible forseveral attacks. Syrian government forces have been fighting againstmultiple opposition and terrorist groups, including Daesh and Jabhat Fatah al Sham, formerly known asJabhat al-Nusra, or Nusra Front. Russian military experts have been analyzing samples taken inSyria inorder tofind proof ofreports ofchemical weapon use bymembers ofradical groups againstcivilians.
