Seven Russian S-300 air missile defense systems deployed in Syria

MNA Seven Russian S-300 air missile defense systems have been deployed in Syria, Russian Defense Minister Shoigu said, adding Admiral Kuznetsov aircraft-carrying cruiser has also begun combat operations.


"As you know, S-400 system was deployed a long time ago [in Syria]. In addition, we have deployed seven S-300 systems tocover the part ofthe sea practically tothe territory ofCyprus," Shoigu said atRussian President Vladimir Putin's meeting withthe ministrys leadership and defense enterprises.

Moreover, Bastion coastal systems which virtually cover the entire coast are deployed, he said. "These complexes are able todestroy both sea and ground targets ata distance of350 kilometers ofthe sea and almost 450 kilometers ofland," Shoigu said.
He also confirmed that the Russian naval group inSyria is defended bythe Bastion, moreover the Russian bases inSyria are now secure fromlow-flying targets.

"Pantsir systems are supplied there because ofthat. In addition, overthe pastfour months the Syrian S-200 systems have been restored, which cover the Syrian territory fromthe east amongother things and support the protection ofour bases inTartus and Hmeymim fromthe air." The Russian president ordered toprotect the Russian Armed Forces inSyria fromthe air and sea. In October, the Russian Defense Ministry said that a S-300 squadron was sent toSyria toensure the safety ofthe Russian naval base inTartus.
"Today, we started a major operation tolaunch massive strikes onDaesh and al-Nusra Front targets inthe Idlib and Homs provinces [in Syria]," Shoigu added.

"The Admiral Kuznetsov aircraft carrying cruiser began taking part inoperations forthe first time inthe history the Russian Navy. Our Su-33 aircraft began working fromthis cruiser today. Before this, we carried outvery careful, thorough reconnaissance ofall targets," Shoigu said. According tothe minister, the main targets include ammunition depots aswell asplants producing weapons.
