Araghchi: Baghdad, Damascus to fall to terrorism without Irans help

TEHRAN, Oct. 26 (MNA) Irans deputy FM said Wed. that if it were not for Irans help and support, terrorism would have completely taken over Iraq and Syria as major regions in the Islamic world.Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi made the remark in the4th International Model-OIC (4th IMOIC) that kicked off on Wednesday in Mashhad, adding we are calling on sponsors of terrorism that lend financial and military support to Takfiri terrorists to stop their support and instead, take steps toward a real fight against this scourge.

He went on to add, what the Leader of Islamic Revolution referred to in his letter to the youth was the recognition of roots of terrorism and the awareness of the kind of backing Takfiri and ISIL groups as the representatives of this movement receive to cause slaughter in various countries.

Elsewhere in his speech at the Model-OIC summit, Araghchi noted the background to the establishment of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), adding nearly half a century has passed since the founding of the Islamic Cooperation Organization in response to the brutal and illegitimate acts of the Zionist regime against the occupation of Palestine.

This organization, with 57 Muslim Member States that in recent decades have broken free from the occupation of the Ottoman Empire, is considered as one of the biggest international organizations in the world, he added.

These countries hold about 70 percent of the worlds oil resources and comprise one-fourth of the worlds population, Araghchi said. They possess about 30 percent of voting rights at the UN General Assembly and have the capacity to form a great Islamic market.

All of these factors show that by utilizing the current capacities, the OIC can perform a better role in the international scene and have a more effective impact on various developments, he stressed.

The 4th International Model-OIC (4th IMOIC), modeled on the ministerial meeting of the OIC Member States, aims to promote knowledge-based approach to contemporary international affairs among outstanding students from top-tier universities in the OIC Member States. The Summit will wrap up on October 28.
