Brig. Gen. Esmaili: Bavar-373 air defense soon to come on stream

TEHRAN, Aug. 29 (MNA) Khatam al-Anbia Air Defense Base commander said Mon. that Bavar-373 long-range air-defense system as a powerful and fully homegrown complement to S-300 missiles will soon become operational.

Brig. Gen. Farzad Esmaeili went on to add that Talash-2 and Talash-3 radar systems designed to detect drones and cruise missileswill soon make their way into the countrys defense system, and as such, there will be no need for Russian-made S-400 missile systems.

The Iranian commander maintained that the location for the S-300 deployment has not been decided yet, adding the S-300 together with Bavar-373 are exactly what we need. They will be soon deployed at their special locations and once operational, will be very fatal for the enemies.

Esmailis remark about the location of the S-300 air defense system comes as the IRIB in a footage released Sunday showed that the system has been deployed at the country's nuclear sites, including Fordow.

The commander went on to add, the arrival of the S-300 to Iran was even more significant than the system itself, because it showed that Iran was able to obtain its rights despite all enmities, threats and sanctions.

Our scientists are now moving along the cutting-edge of worlds technology, Esmaili said. Even without the S-300, we have been very successful in keeping our airspace secure by using our own homegrown defense systems such as Mersad, Shalamcheh, Payambar-e Azam and other such systems.

Esmaili further announced that Nazir radar system, capable of detecting radar-evading targets and fighting against electronic warfare, has been put into operation.

Noting that the radar system would prevent any radar-evading flying object from entering Iran's skies without permission, the commander added that Nazir is suited to detect small flying objects, as well as U2, RQ4 and MQ1aircraft; Nazir can easily detect and trace ballistic and cruise missiles and most importantly, the radar-evading aircraft," he added.
