Top Iranian security official due in India for talks

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Secretary of Irans Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani will travel to New Delhi on Friday for an official visit that will include high-profile meetings.

Shamkhanis two-day visit to India will be part of mutual cooperation between security institutions of the two countries, according to SNSC.

He is planned to hold meetings with Indias prime minister, national security adviser and senior political officials for talks on the bilateral relations and the latest regional and international developments.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid a visit to Iran back in May, when the two countries signed 12 memorandums of understanding to develop cooperation in various areas.

Modi also had a meeting with Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, who said Iran and India can join hands in a genuine fight against terrorism, unlike what the West is doing.

The Islamic Republic of Iran welcomes expansion of relations with India, which is one of the emerging and progressive economies in the world, and (Iran) is fully serious in implementing bilateral agreements and is not influenced by any policy," Ayatollah Khamenei added.
