TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Foreign Ministry's Director General for Political Affairs and International Security Hamid Baeedinejad announced that his country is holding negotiations with the European countries to turn Fordo uranium enrichment plant in Central Iran into a modern center for nuclear physics research.

"Fordo has been decided to be turned into a modern center for development and research on the nuclear physics through international cooperation," Baeedinejad said on Sunday.

He said that preliminary talks are underway with the world's advanced countries, including the Europeans, in this regard, expressing the hope that the executive works to turn Fordo into a modern nuclear physics research center would start soon.

Baeedinjead also referred to Iran's plans to produce durable isotopes using hundreds of modern centrifuges in cooperation with Russia, and said by production of these isotopes at Fordo, Iran not only will become needless of importing them, but also can export the material to other countries.

In relevant remarks in April, Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Ali Akbar Salehi announced that Tehran and the European Union have held good discussions on nuclear cooperation and are now able to launch joint venture at Fordo uranium enrichment plant in Central Iran.

"Various talks and visits have been made between Iran and certain European states after the nuclear deal and this time we are witnessing the presence of an EU delegation within this framework," Salehi told reporters after meeting the EU energy commissioner in Tehran at the time.

"We have held good talks with the EU delegation on nuclear cooperation which can start from the Fordo site," he added.

Salehi also said that Tehran and the EU have decided to set up an advanced nuclear center in Iran to provide the country and neighbors with related services.
