TEHRAN, Jul. 24 (MNA) � Deputy chairman of Islamic City Council of Abadan has announced the signing of an investment MoU with Switzerland worth 98 million euros.


The agreement was signed on the sidelines of the 1st World Conference of Mayors and Councilors 2016 held in Tehran Milad Tower.

Abdolhossein Makvandi said numerous parties were eager to sign Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with Iran adding �the event gave the chance to countries and cities, including the southwestern Iranian city of Abadan, to present their latest achievements, plans and investment opportunities.�

�Fruitful talks were held with the Swiss representative which led to the sealing of a 98-million-euro MoU in various fields including hoteling (� 25mn), trade and city centers (� 38mn), homogenization of associations (� 10mn) as well as medical tourism (� 15mn),� he underlined.

Deputy chairman of Islamic City Council of Abadan said negotiations were also conducted with Armenian officials over investment in tourism, hotel construction, tourist exchange as well as development of joint cooperation.

The official went on to state �director of Scandinavia�s Chamber of Commerce also introduced potentials of 10 firms from Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Norway as well as Iceland and it was agreed that these companies will investigate investment conditions in Abadan.�

Makvandi voiced hope that the implementation of newly-signed agreements will bring about a giant leap in areas of employment, entrepreneurship and business improvement for the youth in Abadan.

The first World Conference of Mayors and Councilors 2016 was held in 20-22 July�with a focus on urban management, urban planning, tourism, crisis management and urban economics.

The conference aimed at urban development, raising awareness about the latest scientific achievements and researches, solving the problems of urban traffic and air pollution, increasing interactions between institutions and governmental organizations and universities for the efficient use of modern science in the field of urban management, urban planning and urban sustainable development.

Over 2000 participants from more than 40 countries and international organizations including Spain, Germany, Denmark, Mexico and Turkey took part in this two-day event.

Educational workshops, professional panels and session on related topics were also held alongside the conference.
