5,900 foreign tourists visit Shush, Khuzestan prov.

Shush, July 24, IRNA Head of Shush Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism office Saeed Dinarvand said that 5,900 foreign tourists from 42 world countries have visited Shush monuments since the beginning of the current Iranian calendar year (beginning on March 20).


Dinarvand told IRNA on Sunday that the tourists visited monuments including Shush Castle and museum, Apadana, Shahr-e-Shahi, Acropole, Haft Tepe museum, Chogha Zanbil and Tomb of Daniel.

He added that most of the visitors came from Germany, France, Italy, Australia, Japan, Taiwan, Poland, the Czech Republic, Netherlands and Belgium.

Shush (Susa) is an ancient city of Iran, and one of the most important cities of the Ancient Near East. It is located in the lower Zagros Mountains about 250 km (160 mi) east of the Tigris River, between the Karkheh and Dez Rivers.

The modern Iranian town of Shush is located at the site of ancient Susa. Shush is the administrative capital of the Shush County of Iran's Khuzestan province.
