Shia holy city may become Iranian video game industry's capital

The Iranian city of Mashhad, home to one of the world's greatest Shia holy sites, may soon also become the capital of the countrys fledgling video game industry.


A video game development course will be launched inSeptember forthe computer engineering students atthe Ferdowsi University ofMashhad (FUM). This development was announced byHassan Karimi Ghadousi, executive director ofthe Iran Computer and Video Game Foundation (ICVGF), duringa meeting withrepresentatives ofFerdowsi Universitys video games society.


"If you consider the number ofpotential video game developers inRazavi Khorasan Province, alongwith the people who already study computer engineering atthis university, the Ferdowsi University ofMashhad has every means necessary tolay the foundation forvideo game industry inthe province," he said, according toMehr News Agency.


He also declared that ICVGF intends tofully support the universitys video game development efforts, and that a game jam will be held there late inSeptember.
"Anyone who wants to, [including] both teachers and students who are members ofthe universitys video games society, may take part inthis program and help develop the video game industry," Said Abrishami, a computer engineering teacher atFUM, added.


Meanwhile, Tasnim News Agency also reports that the video games developers atthe Ferdowsi University intend toproduce games that would be morally and mentally different fromthose manufactured byWestern companies.
