Zarif, Kerry discuss Tehran's access to banking system, Syrian war

The top diplomats of the United States and Iran exchanged opinions on the implementation of the nuclear deal and addressed the Syrian conflict.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) US Secretary ofState John Kerry met withhis Iranian counterpart Javad Zarif inOslo, Norway, todiscuss sanctions relief and Tehrans access tothe banking system, US Department ofState spokesperson Mark Toner said ina press release onWednesday.

"The two discussed progress onthe continuing implementation ofthe JCPOA [Joint Comprehensive Plan ofAction], including issues related tobanking and relief ofnuclear-related sanctions," Toner stated.

During the meeting, Kerry and Zarif also addressed the ongoing crisis inSyria, according tothe State Department.
Last summer, the P5+1 countries Russia, China, the United Kingdom, France, the United States and Germany reached an agreement withIran guaranteeing the peaceful nature ofTehran's nuclear program inexchange forsanctions relief.

In May, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister forEuropean and American Affairs Majid Takht-Ravanchi said Tehran was unsatisfied withhow the nuclear deal was being implemented, citing Washingtons failure tocomply withits obligations underthe pact. Certain restrictions regarding payments inthe US dollars using the US banking system have remained.
