‘Women to hold 45% of labor market share in Iran by 2026’

TEHRAN – By the next ten years about 45 percent of the Iranian labor market will be in the hands of women, Moslem Khani, an advisor to the Ministry of Cooperatives, Labor and Social Welfare said here on Monday.

Studies show that the ratio of men to women in the market, which is currently around 80 percent to 20 percent, will completely change in the next 10 years and the country will face a phenomenon of “househusbands”, he added.

For the time being, the working population in Iran is around 24 million, 19.4 percent of which are women, Khani said.

Researches about Iran’s market proves that women’s active economic presence will change this ratio and in the majority of entrepreneurship jobs there would be large number of women which will result in a new phenomenon of “househusbands”, he noted.

Two researches are made by Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) and Majlis’ Research Center about women’s entrepreneurship, in which the role of women entrepreneurs is studied both in the world and in Iran, Mehr quoted Khani as saying.

“The studies show that women’s tendency to entrepreneurship is more than men all around the world,” he said, adding women are more eager to deal with innovation and creative jobs.

However, the researches prove that men have done more entrepreneurship and creative works than women and their works have resulted in innovations and inventions which are now in experimental stage, Khani noted.

The result of the study shows that women are keener in team works all around the word and in Iran, as well, he maintained.

According to studies made in Iran during 2005-2014, women’s share of entrepreneurship is 6.2 percent, which is very low, Khani stipulated.

Khani noted that women’s interest in innovation and creative works, being more disciplined and work ethic leads them to more success in their jobs.

Creating change in gender ratio in the labor market of any country leads to improvement of the quality of products. The growth of female workers is one of the criteria that indicate economic development of the country, he concluded.
