Projects to add 960k tons to Iran petchem output

TEHRAN, May 03 (Shana) - Iran will boost its petrochemical production capacity by nearly a million tons per year once its launches three major petrochemical plants in western regions.

Iran has launched Lorestan Petrochemical Plant in the western province of Lorestan and will inaugurate two other plants in Kurdistan and Mahabad by the yearend, adding at least 960,000 tons to the country's annual production capacity.

Addressing the opening ceremony of Lorestan Petrochemical Plant, Iranian Minister of Petroleum Bijan Zangeneh hailed Bakhtar Petrochemical Company for construction of the project as a totally private entity.

The official said cession of the project to the holding company was an acceptable experience as the developer lived up to all of its promises in construction of the plant.

"This (Bakhtar) is one of the biggest holding companies in Iran and includes 5 major petrochemical companies as well as the biggest olefin production unit in the country," added Zangeneh.

He said nearly $400b was invested for development of Lorestan Petrochemical Plant, the biggest such investment in the western province of Lorestan.

Once Kurdistan and Mahabad petrochemical plants become operational by the calendar yearend (March 20, 2017), Iran will see 960,000 tons of petrochemicals added to its annual production capacity, said the official.
