FM reiterates Iran's continued support for Iraq's campaign against terrorism

FM reiterates Iran
TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif underscored that his country will not leave Iraq alone in the war against terrorist groups.

Zarif made the remarks in a meeting with UN Special Representative to Iraq Yan Kobish in Tehran on Saturday.

He referred to the existing problems in Iraq, including economic issues and the presence of terrorist groups, and said, "Both the regional states and the UN are required to find a logical and wise solution to settle the Iraqi people's problems."

In relevant remarks earlier this month, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani assured Iraqi Prime Minister Haider Al-Abadi about Tehran's determination to continue assistance to its Muslim neighbor in campaign against terrorism.

All responsible governments in the region and the world have a duty to fight against terrorism and the terrorist groups, including the ISIL, Rouhani said in a phone conversation with Abadi.

He underlined that Iran will side with the Iraqi nation and government and continue its support for them.

Referring to the recent victories against terrorists in the Northern parts of Iraq, Rouhani said that unity of all Iraqi factions and tribes against terrorism is promising.

He voiced regret that certain states still buy oil from the ISIL and arm the terrorists despite their anti-terrorism gestures.

Abadi, for his part, appreciated Iran's continued support for the Iraqi nation against the ISIL, adding that terrorists are a threat against the regional and international stability.
