Syria: Army preparing for operations to retake strategic regions in Idlib

TEHRAN (FNA)- The Syrian army is preparing for large-scale operations to regain control of strategic strongholds and areas in Idlib countryside, an informed military source announced on Monday.

"Syria's army is laying siege on key regions in Idlib countryside in a move to pave the way for winning them back," retired Syrian army General Nassar Kheir told FNA on Monday.

He reiterated that the Syrian army's military operations start from Southern Aleppo province to Northern Hama in order to pave the way for seizing back Jisr al-Shughour.

The Syrian army and popular forces have made remarkable advance in Idlib province in the last few weeks after winning back different strategic regions and are now only several kilometers away from the provincial capital.

The Syrian army and its allies are now deployed in areas near Idlib city in the Northern parts of the country.

The remarkable advances were made after the Syrian air force pounded the gathering centers of the terrorist groups in the town of Khan Sheikhoun and the regions near Mardikh town on the outskirts of Idlib city.

On Wednesday, the Syrian Air Force and artillery units carried out several assaults against the militant groups' gathering centers in the Southern territories of Idlib province, inflicting major losses on the terrorists.

The Syrian fighter jets bombed the militants' sites near the town of Tamanna, Maarat al-Nu'aman, Khan Sheikhoun, and the villages of Kafr Sajneh, al-Rakaya and al-Hamediyeh in the Southern part of Idlib province, which left tens of terrorists dead or injured and destroyed their military grid in large scale.

In the meantime, the Syrian artillery opened fire at the militants' concentration centers near the city of Jisr al-Shughour and the town of Khan Sheikhoun, which ended in destruction of the terrorists' military vehicles.

Earlier reports said that the Syrian army's commandoes in a special operation in two villages in Hama and Idlib province prevailed over the defense lines of the militant groups and killed at least six high ranking militants during the operations.

The Syrian commandoes broke through the terrorist groups' defense lines in the villages of Lahaya and al-Tamanna in Idlib and Hama respectively, killing six high ranking militants and destroying some of the militants' military positions and their military grid.
