Iran, Turkey deputy FMs meet amid disputes

TEHRAN, Feb. 10 (MNA) After 6 months since FM Zarifs visit to Turkey was canceled, deputy FM Rahimpour met his Turkish counterpart in Ankara on Tue. and discussed regional issues and bilateral relations.


Ebrahim Rahimpour, Deputy Foreign Minister for Asia-Pacific and Commonwealth Affairs, arrived in Ankara on Tuesday and held talks with Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister Fereydoun Sinirlio?luon regional developments and bilateral relations.

Sinirlio?luexpressed his satisfaction with the Tuesday talks, saying Iran is Turkey's major neighbor and as such,always attaches great significance to meetings and talks with Iranian officials.

Referring to the nuclear deal between Iran and the 5+1 group of countries, he said Turkey is pleased with Iran's recent achievements in nuclear negotiations and the lift of sanctions.

It is now time for both countries to expand bilateral cooperation by relying on friendly relations in political and economic areas, he added.

He noted the difficult times the region was currently going through, saying peace and stability in Syria was of utmost importance to all regional countries; Given Iran and Turkeys important positions, it is imperative for both countries to cooperate on expediting the process of restoring peace and security to Syria, he added.

The Iranian diplomat for his part, called for mutual efforts for expanding relations on all levels "now that the nuclear deal has been implemented and the lift of sanctions has begun.

During the meeting, the two parties also discussed the latest regional and international developments and stressed Tehran-Ankara cooperation for a peaceful settlement of the Syrian crisis.
