Iran ties Italy’s participation in oil projects to technology transfer

TEHRAN, Feb. 9 (Shana) – Deputy Petroleum Minister for International Affairs and Commerce Amir-Hossein Zamani-Nia said that Iran’s objectives for participation of Italian firms in its oil industry are attraction of capital as well as transfer of technology and knowledge management.

Addressing the second joint meeting of Iranian and Italian economic activists held here on Tuesday, he referred to the recent visit of President Hassan Rouhani to Italy and France and said that it was significant and meaningful since it followed implementation of the nuclear Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

“Italian and Iranian firms and business people in the field of oil, gas and energy optimization are scheduled to meet on Wednesday,” he added, “Iran now has the right to select its partners in the oil projects.”

Referring to Italian oil firms participation in the development of Darkhovein and Balal fields, he said, “My colleagues in the oil industry have a pleasant appraisal of the Italian companies’ background here.”

“More important than its oil resources, Iran enjoys stability and sustainable security in the Middle East. This has prepared the conditions for investment of Italian companies in (Iran’s) oil industry,” Zamani-Nia said.
