Muallem hails Iran's efforts to find political solution to crisis in Syria

TEHRAN (FNA)- Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Muallem in a meeting with Iranian Supreme Leader's top Adviser for International Affairs Ali Akbar Velayati appreciated Tehran for its efforts to find a political solution to the crisis in Syria.
During the meeting in Damascus on Wednesday, Muallem also lauded Iran for helping his country in its ongoing fight against terrorism.

"The effective campaign of the Syrian Army, the Russian Air Force, and the other true regional allies of the Syrian nation also made clear to everyone which party is truly fighting against the terrorists in Syria," the Syrian foreign minister said.

Velayati at the head of a high-ranking delegation arrived in Damascus on Sunday morning and held a meeting with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad before al-Muallem during which he once again ensured him of Iran's support for the Syrian nation.

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian is accompanying Velayati.

On Sunday, Velayati said Syria has always been one of the most important components of the anti-Israel resistance movement in the region, and reiterated that Tehran will not leave Damascus alone in its hard days of war on terrorism.

"Tehran will continue to support Damascus as it is the duty of Iran to do so under the present conditions and the ongoing fight against the terrorists," Velayati told reporters in Damascus.

He pointed to Tehran-Damascus relations, and said, "We have friendly and brotherly ties."

"This is the duty of Iran to continue standing by the friendly state of Syria and President Bashar Assad," Velayati added.

Last week, Syrian Prime Minister Wael al-Halqi hailed Tehran's support for the Damascus government and nation in their fight against the Takfiri terrorists.

"We thank the Iranian government and nation for their help to the Syrians in their fight against foreign-backed militants," Halqi said in a meeting with Iranian Ambassador to Syria Mohammad Reza Raouf Sheibani in Damascus last Sunday.

The Syrian prime minister described Tehran-Damascus relations, and said, "Iran is playing a key role in restoration of regional stability."

Halqi reiterated that Iran-Syria strategic relations helped the resistance pivot to foil the plots hatched by Israel and the US for the region.
