Iran Navy prepared to strongly repel threats: Cmdr.

Irans Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari says the countrys naval forces are prepared to strongly counter any threat against the country.

Today the strategic naval force of the Islamic Republic of Iran is ready to firmly counter any threat in high seas, the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman to defend the countrys territory, Sayyari said on Friday.

He added that Irans Navy has so far managed to escort more than 3,000 commercial vessels and oil tankers from 22 countries in high seas, Bab-el-Mandeb Strait and the Red Sea and provided them with security.

Irans success in providing security for vessels in international waters will improve Irans position in the anti-terror fight and contribute to the establishment of peace and friendship, Sayyari said.

The commander emphasized that the Iranian naval forces have constantly been present in the sensitive regions of Gulf of Aden and the Red Sea.

In recent years, Irans Navy has increased its presence in international waters to protect naval routes and provide security for merchant vessels and tankers.

In line with international efforts against piracy, the Iranian Navy has also been conducting patrols in the Gulf of Aden since November 2008 in order to safeguard merchant containers and oil tankers owned or leased by Iran or other countries.

Irans Navy has managed to foil several attacks on both Iranian and foreign tankers during its missions in international waters.
