Iran welcomes dialogue with European Union

London, Oct 20, IRNA Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab-African Affairs Hossein Amir Abdollahian said that Iran welcomes approaches of the European Union and Britain for more consultations with Iran to settle regional challenges.

He made the remarks here on Tuesday on the sidelines of meeting of European Council on foreign relations think tank.

Referring to Tehran's efforts to settle regional problems, the DyFM said that Iran has no direct bilateral negotiations with the US on regional issues.

He added that Iran supports the UN efforts in this direction and called dialogues with EU foreign policy Chief Federica Mogherini constructive.

Amir Abdollahian also said that in European Council Foreign Relations think tank meeting the latest regional development, fight against terrorism and extremism were discussed.

He added that ideas concerning ways to depart from political crises in the region, including Syria, Iraq, Bahrain, Yemen and Libya were offered by a number of participants in the meeting and Iran's stances in these concern also were explained.

The DyFM said that Yemen Crisis and necessity to concentrate on political mechanism to solve the crisis were among other issues to be discussed in the meeting.

He reiterated that the continuation of Saudi invasion and silence of Western countries had caused intensification of extremism and massacre of Yemeni people.

Amir Abdollahian said that in Bahrain national dialogue between government and opposition should be on the agenda.

He called continuation of Sheikh Ali Salman arrest, as the most democratic leader of Bahraini opposition, as a serious mistake by al-Khalifa regime.

Concerning Iraq crisis, Amir Abdollahian said that in Iraq all actors in the scene do not act to their obligations in fight against terrorism.

He said that today's talks were good opportunity for discussing bilateral and regional issues with our colleagues in Britain Foreign Ministry.

Amir Abdollahian said the aim of this dialogue and consultation is to reach a better and safer world for all.

At least 30 scholars, analysts and editors-in chief of British media were attending the meeting.

Amir Abdollahian arrived in London on Monday evening upon invitation of British Foreign Ministry for a 2-day visit.
