Publishers join cultural campaign; Iran's stand at FBF in Media spotlight

Publishers join cultural campaign; Iran
Tehran, October 17, The Iran Project Iran's cultural measures against the presence of the apostate writer Salman Rushdi at the Frankfurt Book Fair continues as independent publishers joined the campaign.

While Iran's stand in the fair has been left closed since the beginning of the fair due to official boycott, the cultural measures, assisted by independent publishers to voice Iran's objection to the organizers' decision have been the center of the world media attention.

As the Frankfurt Book Fair is the most important marketplace for books and media, Iran's objectionhas drawn the visitor and media's attention.

Meanwhile, a number of independent Iranian publishers have issued a statement to join the campaign and to show solidarity with the Islamic government's decision in defending the Islamic values, a move which was praised by the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance in a press release on Saturday.

To offer the English version of the Mohammad (PBUH) novel as a gift to the fair's visitors, to distribute leaflets both about the miracles of Quran and the Islamic leader's message to the Western youth in English, Arabic and Farsi, to design and install posters about Islam in Iran's stand and to provide the visitors with the pamphlets explaining the reason for Iran's boycott are among the notable cultural measures that Iran has taken to inform the public.

Earlier, Iran officials called Salman Rushdies invitation to Frankfurt Book Fair as anti-Islamic and inflammatory and a move in obvious contradiction to the Book Fair's slogan freedom of speech.
