President criticizes lengthy process of JCPOA implementation

Tehran, Oct 10, IRNA President Hassan Rouhani on Saturday said the lengthy process of the implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action will affect domestic economy.

Addressing the opening ceremony of an international gathering on Irans trade and industry policies here, he said the prolonged procedure added to the countrys problems.

Signed in July, the document was expected to become operational in a few weeks while the dropping oil prices and a prolonged procedure of the JCPOA's implementation led to certain problems for the country, President Rouhani complained.

He said the nuclear deal is a significant event in the history of international foreign policy and diplomacy.

On July 14, Iran and worlds six major powers known as the Group 5+1 (the US, Britain, France, Germany, Russia and China) concluded their over a decade-long negotiations on Irans peaceful nuclear activities signing a Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

According to the text of the document, the anti-Iran sanctions will be removed in exchange for some limitations on the countrys nuclear energy program, Iran will be recognized by the United Nations as a nuclear power and will continue its uranium enrichment program.

The longer the process of the nuclear deal implementation takes, the more economic problems it will entail, President Rouhani stressed.

He regretted that the extremists in the US administration have turned the issue into a matter of partisan rivalry.

President Rouhani said that during the nuclear talks, Iran was involved in a complicated challenge with the world's six major powers which came to a conclusion after two years of relentless efforts and negotiations.

From the beginning of the talks, he noted, Tehran had 'insisted on a win-win game and it ultimately managed to attain that.'

For the first time in recent decades, it has become clear on the table of diplomacy that the power of logic could overcome the power of threats and pressures,' stressed the President.
