Japanese FM due in Tehran next week

Beijing, Oct 6, IRNA - Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida is slated to visit Iran next week, it was reported on Tuesday.

While in Iran, Kishida is slated to hold talks with his Iranian counterpart Mohammad-Javad Zarif on the ways for fostering diplomatic, political and trade relations.

Signing an agreement on joint investment is among other topics to be discussed during the meeting.

Meanwhile, Iran and Japan signed their first-ever deal to promote scientific cooperation between the two countries Tuesday morning.

The document was signed by Irans Minister of Education, Research and Technology, Mohammad Farhadi and his Japanese counterpart Hakubun Shimomura in Kyoto.

According to the document, the two countries are to cooperate in exchange of university students and scholars and joint research ventures.

Shimomura stressed Irans pivotal role in the Middle East and said implementation of the agreement will be a major stride towards enhancing research and scientific cooperation.
