Ban stresses UN cooperation on JCPOA implementation

New York, Oct 5, IRNA - UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon repeated his satisfaction over the nuclear agreement between Iran and world powers and reiterated the world body's cooperation in full implementation of the deal.

He made the comments in a meeting on Monday with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad-Javad Zarif during which he welcomed participation of President Hassan Rouhani in the 70th Session of the UN General Assembly.

The UN and its nuclear watchdog - International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) - are completely ready for full implementation of the nuclear Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), he said, adding that the agreement was a success for establishment of peace in the region and world.

Zarif discussed with UN chief regional crises including in Syria, Yemen, Iraq, and Lebanon.

Referring to Iran's special position in the region, Ban called for closer cooperation with Iran to resolve the crises.

In response to the UN chief's suggestion, the Iranian foreign minister reiterated the fallacy of resorting to military force to settle the crises.

'Iran has always been after political solution to the crises and will continue its cooperation with the UN and regional countries to end the unrests in the region through political negotiations,' Zarif said.
