Russia's parliamentary speaker said that the US policy in North Africa and the Middle East triggered the refugee crisis in Europe.

ULAN BATOR (Sputnik) � The United States may have been pursuing a deliberate destabilizing course in North Africa and the Middle East over the past years, the head of the Russian delegation to the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe Parliamentary Assembly (OSCE PA) said Wednesday.

"I am not a supporter of conspiracy theories, but the question is obvious: could Europe be the ultimate goal of those who destabilized the situation in North Africa and the Middle East with maniacal persistence over the past years," Sergei Naryshkin said.

Naryshkin, speaking to reporters at OSCE PA in the Mongolian capital of Ulan Bator, suggested that "someone suspected and knew" that a migrant crisis would primarily affect European countries.

"Europe, unfortunately, has for a long time stared dispassionately at how a military boot stitched to NATO standards trampled on moral ideals and basic rules of international law," Naryshkin argued. "I am talking about this in the context of Europe�s position in relation to interventions in Iraq, in Libya, in relation to what is happening now."

The Russian speaker pointed to Washington as an "ideologue" behind interventions included in former US President George W. Bush�s war on terror, initiated following the September 11, 2001 attacks on the United States.

Naryshkin Urges OSCE PA to Identify Real Reason for Migrant Crisis

Naryshkin called on participants of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe Parliamentary Assembly to report on the real causes of the migrant crisis in Europe.
"I urge members of the Assembly� to prepare an objective causal analysis and submit a report at the next meeting of the Assembly to resolve problems associated with the large-scale migration crisis in Central and Eastern European countries," he said.
Naryshkin claimed that hundreds of thousands people fleeing homelands in the Middle East and North Africa to Europe have the right not only to compassion, but also to a guarantee the externally manufactured conflicts currently affecting their home countries will be stopped.
"The European Union, however, is mired in disputes about the distribution of quotas for refugees," the speaker underscored. "A deficiency in sincerity and, unfortunately, a lack of morality prevents finding the right solution."

 

The European external border protection agency Frontex reported on Tuesday that over half a million migrants were detected crossing EU borders in the first eight months of 2015. European lawmakers have so far agreed on the bloc's resettlement of only 40,000 migrants who have arrived to Greece and Italy, disagreeing over another 120,000.
