Tehran, Sept 5, IRNA � Vice President of rally committee of Motorcycle and Automobile Federation of the Islamic Republic of Iran (MAFIRI) said on Saturday that Iran has been chosen as host of 2016 Middle East car rally championship.

The sports event was agreed in a recent meeting in Lebanon.
This is the second time that Iran is hosting the Middle East car rally championship.
Shiraz, situated 919 kilometers (571 miles) south of Tehran hosted the 2015 rally championship.
Rallying, also known as rally racing is a form of auto racing that takes place on public or private roads with modified production or specially built road-legal cars. The sport is distinguished by running not on a circuit, but instead in a point-to-point format in which participants and their co-drivers drive between set control points, leaving at regular intervals from one or more start points. Rallies may be won by pure speed within stages or alternatively by driving to a predetermined ideal journey time within the stages.
