Cleric: Post-JCPOA issues not less important than it, if not more

Tehran, Sept 4, IRNA Interim Friday Prayers leader of Tehran said in this week's 2nd sermon that the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) itself is an issue, but its post-JCPOA issues if not more important than it, are by no means any less important.

Hojjatoleslam Ahmad Khatami referred to Leadership Experts Assembly's inviting of two personalities, one pro-JCPOA and one against it to talk about that agreement (Seyyed Mohammad Araqchi and Saeid Jalili) as a fine initiative.
'If we wish to judge a phenomenon fairly and realistically we need to hear every aspect of it, and that is nor restrictedly related to the JCPOA, but true in the political, social and even family affair, where judgment should be postponed to after hearing both sides' stories,' he said.
Khatami also referred to the Supreme Leader's comments on the JCPOA, which he said should be heard more than once and deeply contemplated about.
'The JCPOA itself is passing through its legal procedures, including the Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) and the Parliament's surveys of it, which the Supreme Leader said that the Parliament should not be excluded,' he said, arguing that in addition to the leader, the IRI Constitution's Article 77, too, reiterates that the Parliament must approve of the international agreements, either they are signed, or not, as they are the nation's commitments.
On post-JCPOA issues and their importance, he said that care should be taken that the enemy will not cheat us, after coming to terms with it over an issue.
'Being optimist about the enemy, or not cautious enough is not acceptable, and being pleased with the enemy's smile, will lead to materializing of the enemy's satanic objectives,' he added.
He referred to the Americans' at least six points which could be regarded as breaching the agreement, firstly when they say that the sanctions framework remains intact, which lead to the question, why should we be then limiting the number of our centrifuges from 19,000 down to 6000, while we could have increased them to 50,000? Why should we limit our enrichment program?
He said that the sanctions were supposed to be terminated, and not suspended, which is another case of breaching the agreement, and the suspension is not acceptable as in that case it is a unilateral agreement.
Khatami said that expecting the Iranians to change their behavior, too, is not meaningful. 'What does it mean? Do they mean that we should abandon our revolutionary and Islamic values and to be resolved in the oppressor system? Do we have to end supporting the resistance movements in the world, such as the oppressed Iraqi, Bahraini nations, or Lebanese Hezbollah movement? That will definitely not happen.'
He also referred to the Americans' argument that the JCPOA has provided opportunities for them inside and outside their country, arguing that this it the penetration that the Supreme Leader referred to in several addresses.
Khatami also advised the media and website managers not to pave the path for the Americas' penetration into the Islamic system's realm.
