Netanyahu: Most Americans side with Israel on Iran

An overwhelming majority of the American public sees eye-to-eye with Israel on the danger Iran poses,' PM says after Obama successfully secures Iran deal votes.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Thursday that most Americans agree with Israel on the danger Iran faces.

"I have to say that an overwhelming majority of the American public sees eye-to-eye with Israel on the danger Iran poses," he said during a glass-raising event for Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish new year, at the Foreign Ministry.

Netanyahu added that "it is important to appeal to the American public" and tell them that "Iran is an enemy of the United States, as it declares openly."

He said that Israel is a U.S. ally, and as such it is important that Americans understand the Iranian threats and their "significant consequences to our security."

U.S. President Barack Obama gained the support on Wednesday of the minimum 34 U.S. senators necessary to uphold his presidential veto should Congress vote against the deal. After failing in Congress, Netanyahu is taking the fight to the American public opinion.

In the final days remaining before the U.S. vote, which will take place around September 10, Obama will try to win the support of six more Democratic Senators. This would enable a filibuster in Senate, which would block any vote on a resolution opposing the Iran deal, thus negating the need for Obama to use his veto.
