Iraqi Kurdistan to ease restrictions on Iranians

Iraqi Kurdistan to ease restrictions on Iranians
Erbil, Aug 30, IRNA The Autonomous Region of Iraqi Kurdistan is intended to ease restrictions on Iranians who travel to the region, says region's Interior Minister Karim Sanjari.

Sanjari was received by Iran's Consul General Amir Masoudian on Saturday and the two discussed ways to promote ties between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Autonomous Region of Iraqi Kurdistan.

'The Islamic Republic of Iran is one of our neighbors and we maintain historical relations,' Sanjari said following his meeting with Iran's Consul General.
'We are trying to deepen our ties and remove restrictions,' he said.

'We are trying to maintain good neighborly ties with Iran and we are going to ease restrictions on Iranians.'

Amir Masoudian, on his part, said that his meeting with the Kurdish official revolved around promoting ties and resolving the problems faced by the Iranian workers in the region and settling claims of the Iranian companies.

'According to a new law in the region, no residence visa is issued to the families of the Iranian workers and this has caused problems for many Iranians working in the region,' Masoudian said.

'We have asked the region's interior minister to remove the restrictions,' he said.

'We also asked Mr. Sanjari to find a way soon to settle delayed claims of the Iranian companies,' the Iranian Consul General said.

Global decline in the prices of oil accompanied by a Daesh insurgency and its terrorist activities in Iraq has caused tens of thousands of people to leave their homes and rush towards safer regions including the autonomous Kurdistan region.

The influx has left the region with financial problems.
