American people not against Iran nuclear agreement: Analyst

The opponents of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) between Iran and the P5+1 group of nations mislead the public by saying that the American people are against the deal, says a political analyst.

John Miranda made the comments when Press TV interviewed him about former US vice president Dick Cheneys remarks about the nuclear agreement with Iran.

Cheney had accused President Obamas government of lying about the JCPOA.

"The Obama agreement will lead to a nuclear-armed Iran, a nuclear-arms race in the Middle East and, more than likely, the first use of a nuclear weapon since Hiroshima and Nagasaki," the former US official told the Wall Street Journal over the weekend.

Miranda accused Cheney of providing false information in order to make a point. He dismissed Cheneys claim about the use of atomic weapons.

Cheney is misleading the public when he is saying it will be the first time when in fact it seems both in Syria and Yemen nuclear weapons have been used, Miranda told Press TV on Sunday.

Within America itself the mainstream media is trying to say that a majority of Americans are against the Iran nuclear deal which is not true, the analyst added. We are getting a lot of lies in our false mainstream media and everybody should be aware of that.

This is not a deal between the United States and Iran. This is a deal between permanent members of the Security Council plus Germany and Iran, he maintained.

Iran and the P5+1 group of countries reached the conclusion of nuclear negotiations in Vienna, Austria, on July 14.

The Obama administration has been struggling to save the nuclear agreement in the Republican-dominated Congress, which is reviewing it and is expected to vote on it in September.

Even if Congress could manage to curb the deal, there is not going to be new sanctions because all the other countries that have signed on to this deal Russia, China, the United Kingdom, France and Germany they are all making deals with Iran now, Miranda said.
