Irans Zarif: No talks on EU office in Tehran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said the country has not discussed possible establishment of an EU office in its capital, Tehran.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a ceremony here in Tehran on Tuesday evening, Zarif said in his talks with EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini in Tehran, the two sides had no discussion about the EUs diplomatic mission in Tehran.

Late in July, Mogherini paid a one-day visit to Tehran during which she met with Zarif, President Hassan Rouhani and a number of high-ranking Iranian officials.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Zarif said that no specific date has been set for a meeting between Iran and the Persian Gulf littoral states.

We have always been and are prepared for talks with the Persian Gulf states and it is up to them (Arab states) to welcome the move, Zarif noted.

Earlier today, Zarif had stressed that the country favors amicable ties with all neighbors, including Saudi Arabia, adding that Tehran and Riyadh have a lot of common interests when it comes to tackling regional problems like violence and extremism.

The Islamic Republic of Irans principled policy of forging good ties with neighbors will continue, Zarif said at a joint press conference with his Ghanaian counterpart in Tehran on Tuesday, adding, We welcome improvement of ties with all neighbors.
