Water crisis is serious: Energy minister

Tehran, Aug 15, IRNA - Minister of Energy Hamid Chitchian said on Saturday that water crisis is a complicated and very serious problem.

Speaking in a local ceremony, he noted that water crisis is the major challenge of country today.

Water crisis in Iran is serious and very much complicated but it could be resolved by coordinated work of all branches of the government and both private and public sectors, the official added.

He underlined that due to bad use of water resources, many of lakes, wells and other sources of water have dried during the past decade.

During the past 15 years, the amount of rainfall has decreased and has reached the average amount of 244 millimeters, Chitchian undelined.

He called climate change, global warming and excessive use of water for sanitation, agriculture and industry as the causes of intensifying water crisis.
