JCPOA has Netanyahu stretched far and wide

Hawkish Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has once again repeated his baseless allegations against Iran, claiming that the recent agreement reached between Iran and the P5+1 group of countries triggers a nuclear arms race.

In bizarre comments made in an address to members of Jewish institutions in the US in a live Tuesday webcast, Netanyahu claimed that the agreement paves Irans path to the bomb his words.

I dont oppose this deal because I want war, I oppose this because I want to prevent war and this deal will bring war. It will spark a nuclear arms race in the region, he said.

The most important point I have to make today is this: the nuclear deal with Iran doesn't block Irans path to the bomb, it actually paves Irans path to the bomb, he claimed.

The Israeli premier has long been engaged in a hostile campaign against the diplomatic efforts between Iran and the P5+1 the United States, Britain, Russia, China, France, and Germany over the Islamic Republics nuclear program, which culminated in the agreement on July 14.

After the conclusion of the agreement, dubbed the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), Netanyahu described it as a bad mistake of historic proportions.

This is while the P5+1 countries and many other countries in the world have welcomed the agreement and praised it as a win-win for both negotiating partners.

Teaming up with traitors

Netanyahu has also been exerting pressure on the US Congress which has been given a 60-day period to review the JCPOA to reject it.

In March, when the agreement was yet to be reached, Netanyahu delivered a speech at the Congress at the invitation of hawkish members and in contravention of diplomatic norms. He urged them to oppose the then potential agreement. Some media reports in the US have described those members of Congress who invited Netanyahu and attended the Congress session where he spoke as traitors by having a foreign leader speak against their own commander-in-chief.

US President Barack Obama on Tuesday meet with American Jewish community leaders in the White House in a bid to persuade them on the merits of the agreement.
