Economic gains helped nuclear achievement: Rouhani

Tehran, Aug 2, IRNA - President Hassan Rouhani said his government's success in curbing inflation by 15 percent and acheiving positive growth rate dimayed the enemies from pressuring Iran at the nuclear negotations table.

He made the comments in a nation-wide televised interview broadcast on Sunday night during which he supported putting improvement of economic conditions on the top of the government's agenda.

Rouhani promised to further bring down inflation to a single digit number as his government managed to lower it from 42 to 15 percent in two years and led the country out of recession with a growth rate of 3 percent.

Saying that economic gains were one of the factors behind Iran's success at the nuclear talks, he added, 'If one wants to break down a nation by sanctions, it will be a failure. But if they want to have an impact, yes, sanction can have some effect.'

He said all anti-Iran sanctions will be lifted upon execution of the Vienna deal reached last July including those on finanical, banking, insurance, transport and petrochemical sectors and added, 'I will later explain to the nation of the nights, days and hours that we had.'

Rouhani also praised the prudence of Supreme Leader and said he was never doubtful against gaining success at the talks.

He expressed confidence that the Iranian nation will mark success at the economic arena in the post-sanction era.

Rouhani agreed with concerns that with lifting of sanctions, there is a risk of returning to unwise imports as happened under previous government and said due measures will be taken to avoid it.

More on President Rouhani's comments will follow.
