Iran Daily: EUs foreign policy chief discusses nuclear deal in Tehran

European Union foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini visited Iran on Tuesday, discussing implementation of the July 14 nuclear agreement between Tehran and the 5+1 Powers.

Both Mogherini and senior Iranian officials spoke of cooperation beyond the nuclear deal, reached after more than a decade of tension and negotiations.

Mogherini told the BBC that the completion of the deal had shown that dialogue could succeed in difficult times, while cautioning that the implementation of the agreement would be just as challenging.

Speaker of Parliament Ali Larijani, looking to Irans goals in the Middle East amid crises from Iraq to Syria to Yemen, said after their meeting: Iran and the EU have common interests in promoting cooperation, which can help improve the situation in the Middle East and put an end to the current threats to bring about stability and tranquility in the Middle East.

Larijani bore out Mogherinis caution about the next stage of the deal, which envisages lifting of sanctions on Tehran by December in return for Irans compliance with the terms limiting its nuclear program:
If the nuclear agreement is approved [by the Iranian Parliament], Iran will be committed to the terms of the agreement and will carefully implement it, but if the Iranian nation feels that the 5+1 Powers are not making good on their obligations under the agreement, the tables will be turned.
French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius is also in Tehran, arriving on Wednesday morningfor discussions with Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif, President Rouhani, and other Ministers.

The visit is the first by a French foreign minister to Iran in 12 years.
