EU extends suspension of Iran sanctions until July 10 amid nuclear talks

The EU has prolonged the suspension of restrictive measures against Iran until July 10 as the talks on the Tehran's nuclear program continue in Vienna.

BRUSSELS (Sputnik) The European Union said Tuesday it would extend its suspension of sanctions against Iran until July 10 amid the ongoing negotiations in Vienna on the Islamic Republic's controversial nuclear program.

"To allow more time for the ongoing negotiations to reach a long term solution to the Iranian nuclear issue, the Council has prolonged until 10 July 2015 the suspension of EU restrictive measures agreed in the Joint Plan of Action with Iran dated 24 November 2013," a Council of the EU statement reads.

Iran and six world powers comprising Russia, Britain, France, China, the United States and Germany are working against the clock to agree on a final nuclear deal that will have Tehran dismantle parts of its nuclear infrastructure in exchange for sanctions relief.
The Islamic Republic insists its nuclear program serves peaceful purposes only. It has rejected some of key demands, saying it is against long-term freezes for nuclear research.
